After spending a number of years in their neighbourhood, the owners of this home needed more space as their family grew, but did not want to move, so they made the decision to add on to their 1950s bungalow. Essentially doubling the square footage of their home, they added on 864 square feet above grade as well as a 440 square foot basement.
As during many renovations, the owners decided to renew the remaining elements of their exterior to unify the look and upgrade the performance of their original home. Their home now has an entirely new exterior with 1 ½” of exterior insulation, as well as triple-pane windows and new siding to match the addition. Their addition opened up the kitchen and gave them a couple of areas for kids to eat breakfast and work on homework. They were able to move their laundry to the main floor and create an extremely effective boot room at the rear entrance.
The second floor of the addition features the master bedroom, large closet, ensuite and a reading room. Meanwhile the basement created a wonderful space for a music room and for working out. Large decks off the front and back of the house create functional space for use in the summer months.
This family has ample room for their own use and entertaining family and friends for years to come.
